Membership demand, access and the waiting list

The Club recognises the very high demand for access and has gradually increased both membership and community‑access numbers in a way that remains safe and operationally manageable.

  • We currently have 4,750 full and weekday members, who renew annually and can attend from May to October. Any memberships not renewed are offered to people on the waiting list.
  • Alongside this, we have a waiting list of approximately 4,500 people who have signed up for Community Access (pay as you go) and hold associate‑member status while they wait for full or weekday membership.

Whilst there is currently no space to offer new Community Access, the Club recognises that having a waiting list which rarely opens — and then only for a short period, using a ballot system — can understandably feel frustrating.

To make this process fairer and more predictable, we are introducing a new way to express your interest. Using the link below, please provide your details and we will add you to a chronological waiting list for Community Access. When space becomes available, offers will be made in the order in which expressions of interest were received.

The lake is only suitable for competent swimmers and passing a 50-metre swimming test is an essential requirement for membership.

Winter Swimming eligibility

Adult Full Members and Community Access users can apply for winter swimming each October, provided they have already completed the required swim test. This ensures that winter access remains safe and manageable during colder months.

We currently are unable to offer a separate winter membership or guest spaces.

Guests access and fees

During the summer season, adult Members and Community Access users (aged 18 and over) may bring up to two guests to the Lake.

  • Junior guests must demonstrate they can swim 50 metres by completing a swim test at the Lake on their first visit each season.
  • During periods of exceptional demand, guest spaces for Community Access users may be limited to ensure safety and manageable capacity.

Guest fees are as follows:

  • Adult guests (18 and over): £8
  • Junior guests: £5 (must be able to complete the 50‑metre swim test)
  • Students and those aged 66 and over: £5

Neighbour access

The Club recognises that the immediate surrounding streets get busy, particularly during good weather. If you reside on one of the following streets please contact membership@henleazeswimmingclub.org and we will let you know of our neighbour access scheme.
